The Groninger City Park is a spacious walking area with a newly renovated playground and a large petting zoo. Next to the playground there are large playgrounds with picnic tables. The park was designed by landscape architect Leonard Springer, along with the Groningen director of public works John Anthony Mulock Hack. The racetrack grounds are used regularly at major events such as Liberation Day and the celebration of the Siege of Groningen. Great artists like The Rolling Stones and Tina Turner have already performed here.

The Hortus Botanicus, Haren has twenty acres of gardens. Airport Eelde is the regional airport of the northern Netherlands. During the summer around a thousand people depart weekly from Groningen Airport to their holiday destination. Also out of peak season Eelde offers more and more opportunities for city trips. During the winter four weekly charter flights fly off to the Canary Islands. From Groningen Airport there is also a line connection to Aberdeen, Scotland.
